Peripheral Neuropathy Affecting Intimacy

By |October 16th, 2018|Neuropathy|0 Comments|

How Does Peripheral Neuropathy Affects Intimacy? Peripheral neuropathy is a condition that causes damages to peripheral nerves that connect with the central nervous system, causing a disruption in the transmission of information round trip from and to the central nervous system and the area of the body affected. Among the most common problems but not limited to these there is the inability to feel sensations, moving, dysfunctional organs and glands, all this depending upon the affected nerve. [...]

Nutritional Neuropathies

By |October 13th, 2018|Neuropathy|Comments Off on Nutritional Neuropathies|

Nutritional neuropathies occur as the result of poor nutrition, particularly if there is a deficiency of certain B vitamins. All of the B vitamins are important for normal nerve function. Thiamine (B1) is commonly found in enriched breads, pasta, and cereal. Thiamin deficiency may occur in alcoholism, anorexia, or bulimia. Neuropathy can also occur in people who are deficient in Vitamin B6 or Vitamin B12. Vitamin B6 is found in meat, beans, greens, fish, and whole grains. Vitamin B6 deficiency is uncommon, but can occur as a side effect of certain medications such as the antibiotic, isoniazid. [...]

Effects of Stress in Patients living with Neuropathy

By |October 9th, 2018|Neuropathy|0 Comments|

Stress and Neuropathy   Peripheral neuropathy involves the nerves transporting information from the periphery to the central nervous system (spinal cord and brain), in both ways. For better understanding, peripheral nerves tell the brain about the sensation of heat or cold in their zone (each nerve has a corresponding zone) and the brain responds, for example, in the face of extreme heat, with a movement away from that zone, so as to avoid a burn. [...]

Questions to ask your neurologist      The first step to overcome a disease is to fully understand it. Of course, that does not involve being an expert in the field, not even it is essential to follow one and all research done on the subject; but understanding pretty well what it is about may lead to better solutions. [...]

Myelin Layer

By |October 3rd, 2018|Neuropathy|Comments Off on Myelin Layer|

The myelin layer is a white fatty and protein covering that insulates and protects a nerve fiber. The concept of myelin can be thought of as similar to the insulating coatings that typically surround electrical wiring. Just like insulators are needed to protect electrical wires, myelin is needed to protect our nerve fibers which incidentally, conduct electrical current also. Myelin is made up of roughly about 80% fat, and about 20% protein. [...]
